Who Can Register on GeM as a Seller or Service Provider?

In line with Rule 149 of the General Financial Rules (GFR) issued by the Government of India, it is mandatory for central ministries, public sector undertakings, and state/UT governments (that have signed MoUs with GeM) to procure common-use goods and services via the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). To participate, vendors must register themselves on the platform.

Eligible Entities for GeM Registration

Any legally recognized entity in India can register on the GeM portal to supply goods or services. The following types of businesses and organizations are eligible:

  • Sole Proprietors – Individuals or unincorporated setups offering products or professional services

  • Partnership Firms – Registered business partnerships eligible under Indian laws

  • Companies – Private Limited and Public Limited companies registered under the Companies Act

  • Societies & Trusts – Non-profit or charitable institutions registered under relevant Acts and engaged in trade or services

  • Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) – Government-owned organizations supplying goods or services to other departments
